Frequently Asked Questions About Home Remodeling
How many estimates should I get for a remodeling project?
I'm sure you have heard to always get three estimates for any work you are
going to have done. Well, that depends on a lot of factors. If a contractor has
been recommended by a friend, you have seen his work and are satisfied with the
quality, and YOU have met and talked with the remodeling contractor and are
comfortable with him, , then maybe you only need to get his estimate. If you
feel his price is reasonable, I would say go for it. On the other hand, if you
are getting bids from contractors that you have no personal experience with, get
three bids. If the bids are within 10-15% of each other, then choose based on
your comfort level with the remodeling contractor. If the three bids are really
different, more investigation needs to be done. Either, a remodeling contractor
forgot something and the bids are not "apples to apples" bids, or there might be
something suspicious about a contractor with a "out of range" bid. Look closely,
buyer beware.
How long does it take to remodel a kitchen (on an average)?
Usually it takes 2 to 3 months dependent on kitchen size and details involved
in the project. The first step is to take measurements. We then supply the
customer with a 3 dimensional sketch so they will be able to better envision
their future kitchen. We also provide a sample of the cabinet door, with the
wood color and style that the customer had chosen. After approval we move on
with the process. Building custom cabinets can take 4 to 8 weeks (depending on
the size and the amount of detail in the kitchen), we then install the custom
cabinets, floors, countertops, plumbing, electrical which can take another 4 to
6 weeks.
What are some of the steps involved in starting a project?
The first step is to contact our office! Once we have determined your project
needs we will set up an appointment to meet with you and determine your budget.
We will then send out a qualified professional to do a site visit. From there a
proposal will be created for the specified work. Once the proposal is accepted
we will schedule your project and determine a payment schedule together with
you. For more on this, please review our
design/build process.
What could delay my project?
Delays, unfortunately, do happen. The original schedule of the project is a
planning tool that may change due to issues that arise during the remodeling
job. Causes of the delay could be longer lead time from a manufacturer, special
order items, correction of problems not foreseen, such as water damage, damaged
merchandise, changes to the original design, and the biggest delay cause is of
course weather. When these things happen we will try hard to get a new schedule
out to you so that you know the length of time that had to be added on.
